MG Strike E + IWSP Noir ver.

This is the second MG I built, also handpainted. Originally Strike E + IWSP Lukas O’Donnel Custom, but I gave it Noir’s scheme because a) I don’t like Lukas’ colour (mainly because I was too lazy to mix it) and b) Mr.Colour’s gloss black looks awesome (especially when it’s free of dust and fingerprints XD).

Apart from a bunch of guns and swords it also comes with two slash harken like anchors, unfortunately I never took them off of the runners and they were thrown out by my parents >.> . Quite ironically, with more guns than it could ever possible use at once, this suit has no beam sabers.

USB Gouf Custom

I’m attending several family events this weekend so this entry is a bit rushed, and it also explains why I had no entry yesterday. As you know, I received my MG Gouf Custom a few days earlier and I have been planning something special with it (and bringing it to school with me).

Here is a picture of the MG Gouf Custom. I scratch built it first so the quality is pretty crap. I will be painting it most likely on Monday.

Ever since I started building MGs I’ve never used their clear stickers. For some reason all the zeonic suits’ are made by sticking a piece of red/pink sticker over a piece of clear plastic, which looks pretty bad. My MG Zaku II I painted the lens, and it looks slightly better. For this one though, as it’s an old kit and the quality isn’t up to par with the newer ones, I’ve decided to try something new, and that is to replace the eye with a USB powered LED bulb (Idea came from Gundamaniac’s tutorial, although I did made some changes, wiring the bulb was still thanks to him)

My friend took the pictures of my first trial with this stuff. I’m waiting for the pictures, they’ll go up later. But…lets just say that it didn’t go very well. I used 2V LEDs, and the USB provides 5V. The guy at the electronic surplus store told me to use 330 ohms resistors. That resulted in the bulb not lighting up. I tested the circuit and the bulb burnt out in less than a second. I then hooked up a much weaker resistor and the bulb burnt out as well. After going back to the store and having an hour long argument about this stuff, the guy told me they had 5v bulbs…<insert swear word here>

This is all I had to work with, I gave up working yesterday and had another go today. Since the bulbs are now 5v, they didn’t burn out when I connected it.

All this is all rushed. I will solder the wires together when I have time. Now that the light is connected, the head had to be modded so the light will fit.

Brain surgery can't be too hard...

Brain surgery can't be THAT hard...

The heads of the earlier Zeonic suits are much simpler compared to the 2.0 remakes. All that’s restricting the LED bulb is that area where the old eye was. So…

As you can see, I ended up cutting the peg supporting the eye to make way for the bulb. The wires can go through the gap at the poly cap where the head joins with the torso. I don’t really feel like modding the torso/backpack, so the wires will be sticking out of the pack of the Gouf’s neck.

Let there be Light!

Let there be Light!

Yay!

Yay!

Took me around 10 mins to write this >.> Gotta run. Hope you enjoyed it. Any grammer errors will be fixed when I have time.

Strike E + IWSP – Yet more progress

I’ve been eating out on my day-offs, so I’ve yet to complete my model. The good thing is that I’ve finally had it assembled and stuff.

Pictures:

The Problems? A few parts need to be stripped and repainted because the paint was dirtied when I painted. I also missed some sprues marks. On top of that, some of the metallic paint on the sword scraped off when I mounted them. After that is top coat and decals.

To be honest though, I’m a bit hesitant to finish this project, just because then I’d have nothing to do until my next kit arrives (which I haven’t placed my order yet).

Strike E + IWSP Project

I started building it, and that’s…a start. I’m pretty much just going to blog about how very little has been accomplished.

My work area

The kit is different from the Zaku II. It has coloured parts and frame mixed together. I have no idea what I was thinking when I decided to paint while building. Anyway, I’ve completed the torso, although differently form what others have done:

  1. Unlike Danny or Marvin, I hand painted gloss lacquer instead of metallic spray paint.
  2. I used the Noir scheme instead of the original colour. I’m gonna call it Sven Cal Bayan custom.
  3. I’m too poor to get an air brush ;_;
  4. I don’t have Saber to pose with T.T

<- Fifth attempt at painting the eyes. I think it turned out all right.

I’m hoping to complete it by next week…hopefully…

Stuff in the mail

My MG Strike E+IWSP Lukas O’Donnell ver. arrived today. The box was bigger than what I remembered, and…well…I’ve been anticipating it for quite a while (in MY frame of reference D=< )

On a side note I have absolutely no idea who Lukas O’Donnell is. Apparently he one of the two pilots for the Strike E + IWSP, the other being Phantom Pain member Sven Cal Bayan. This suit is being featured in the side story Gundam SEED Frame Astrays, which I’ve never read.

Taking a look inside the box:

Probably because I’m still relatively new to MG, but I’ve only got one thing to say. “Holy @&$^”

A crapload of parts, 6 more runners (though one of them is the base) than the Zaku II I built (was building) earlier. Oh well, I think I’ll get used to it.

Changes:

I will probably not be sticking to Lukas O’Donnell’s colour because 1) I don’t want to mix up that deep blue/purple colour for the chest and shoulders and 2) I personally don’t like that colour. I will either use the old Strike’s blue/white colour scheme or Sven’s Noir colours. Another thing I foresee is the need for more supplies, more specifically, paint (and a new Gundam Marker, as well as more sandpaper).

The blade will definitely need to be painted silver

As for when I’m going to start…I haven’t the slightest clue.

MG MS-06F Zaku II Ver.2.0

It’s my day off from work and I guess I’ll blog about that MG Zaku II which I got a while back, 95% completed and is now on hold because of some misfortune and will not be completed until I get a convenient day off for more supplies.

Overview:

Box Size: 31.0 x 20.0 x 13.3 cm

Weight: 660g

Type: Gundam master grade injection-plastic kit

Includes: 12 plastic runners, 1 runner for poly caps, a sheet of stickers, a sheet of dry rub-on decals, instruction manual, two metal springs.

Approximate build time: ~15 hours so far (including time for paint to dry), add another 30 minutes for so for completion.

Thoughts:

My first MG (bought at Anime North for around $48, I’m not the type to haggle unless I’m in China) and I’m thoroughly impressed. The kit had a ton of parts but detailed stuff like puttying wasn’t necessary. I’m assuming that the armor is supposed to be removable, although they fit pretty well already. Still, going over them with something like a gundam markers will make it look sharper. Also, the dealer really wasn’t lying when he said the new MGs are able to do dynamic and often retarded poses. Still, it’s a model kit, not a toy, so it’s best not to play with it too much.

As it’s my first MG, I kind of messed up on some of the decals. I only have a few large ones on this model and did not bother with the smaller ones. I also didn’t bother using the stickers (I ended up painting the monoeye) because they just look like tape with stuff on them (and they don’t reflect the same amount of light the lacquered plastic does, so anyone could tell they’re there).

Ummm…yea…anyone wanna go to pmall so I can get me a new gundam marker?

More pictures to come after it’s completed…whenever that is.

PS. My Haruhi figure just shipped^^. Why does it have to be discontinued right after release…Had I known that I would have ordered Yuki as well…
