MG Wing ver Ka.

As stated earlier, I have completed my MG Wing in quite a short period of time considering all the other stuff I did during the day.

This is the only Gundam kit that I will be building this summer. I used a different approach when building this guy, whether it looks better or worse than my previous projects, I’ll let the viewers decide. I guess the first thing I should state is that I air brushed this kit (aside from two parts).

Also, I was planning on doing the shoot of Saber and Iris this afternoon as well, but I couldn’t find a power bar to support the additional lights.

Wing Assembly Complete

After hours of painsteaking tinkering with various equipments that have been giving me a ton of grief, I have finally completed this kit!

DSC_0400

It’s kind of late, with the energy saving bulb in my room, it is not ideal for photoshooting (I’ve pushed the aperature setting of my camera to the limit, still no good). I’ll be saving my review for tomorrow or Friday, when I have the chance to take some decent shots. With that said, there are still a few things that I’d like to get off of my chest.

Using lacquer thinner to thin paint and then hand painting said paint resulted in epic failure, even more so when I used it to strip paint (note the texture of the left [your right] knee cap). Second, the panel lining was a huge pain in the butt and finally, I freaking hate dry rub-on decals. They seem to stick at the worst possible time, a pain to put on, and even more painful to remove. One decided to stick to my hand, gah! Yeah, that’s all.

Also, imaginary cookies to the person who can guess where my title came from (it’s a reference to a game, though I’ve changed one word to suit this post).

I recieved my shipment of primer and top coat yesterday, so I’m determined to get my Wing completed as soon as possible. I’m actually being more careful with this kit than I did any previous ones, so it’s actually not going that fast ^^;

New Project Start!

As a science student there’s not all that much time for rest. On top of topping up extra-curricular activities to add on to “the list of stuff you did”, just recently, I had to scramble to set up the list of courses that I’ll be planning on registering, which starts Wednesday. While venturing into unknown and hostile enviornments, the thought of knowing that one of your profs is awesome (the rest being unknown) is great, since he promised last year that he’d make orgo chem a walk in the park. On top of the fatigue from the drive to London on 3.5 hours of sleep which lingered throughout the weekend and excessive WoW playing (which I am happy to say I quit for good, even with 2 more days left on my account), I haven’t got around to doing much else.

I guess the point I’m trying (and failing) to make is, plans are meaningless if you’re just going to push them back. I originally wanted to finish my resin kit, but I put that on hold because I messed up quite a bit of stuff and am out of primer and paint (flesh tone and white). I actually want to do a good job on that resin kit so I’m planning on stripping certain parts and repriming and repainting the parts I painted.

(end of pre-post ramble)

While waiting for primer and top coat to arrive from HLJ (local store is selling a can of primer for 17 CAD wtf), I’ve decided to pick up my other project, which had been sitting in my figure box piles for quite a while now. I figured that I wouldn’t need primer and stuff for this, and I could learn better control of the air brush while working on this.

GN Archer Pilot Revealed and Confirmed

Yeah, remember that post that I made a while back? Due to my wrong interpretation and lack of Japanese language skills (well, the blame can’t be ALL on me, since the people on the forum thought the same too.) Anyway loyal fans of Allelujah and Marie are correct and the pilot will indeed be Soma Pieres aka Marie Parfacy.

MG Strike E + IWSP Noir ver.

This is the second MG I built, also handpainted. Originally Strike E + IWSP Lukas O’Donnel Custom, but I gave it Noir’s scheme because a) I don’t like Lukas’ colour (mainly because I was too lazy to mix it) and b) Mr.Colour’s gloss black looks awesome (especially when it’s free of dust and fingerprints XD).

Apart from a bunch of guns and swords it also comes with two slash harken like anchors, unfortunately I never took them off of the runners and they were thrown out by my parents >.> . Quite ironically, with more guns than it could ever possible use at once, this suit has no beam sabers.

MG MS-06F Zaku II ver 2.0

When I first bought this model I’ve only seen 08th MS Team, so I thought I’d juse use this to practice painting skills when I first acquired it from Anime North 2008. Little did I know though, how I come to like this kit (and I’ve only seen 0080: War in the Pocket since then, need to get my hands on Zeta at least >.<)

For those who don’t know (and most probably don’t). I handpaint all of my gunpla kits (sad to say, only consists of 3 MGs and a HG, I’m not counting the four HG 1/144s). So the quality probably isn’t as great as some of the other modelers.

USB Gouf Custom

I’m attending several family events this weekend so this entry is a bit rushed, and it also explains why I had no entry yesterday. As you know, I received my MG Gouf Custom a few days earlier and I have been planning something special with it (and bringing it to school with me).

Here is a picture of the MG Gouf Custom. I scratch built it first so the quality is pretty crap. I will be painting it most likely on Monday.

Ever since I started building MGs I’ve never used their clear stickers. For some reason all the zeonic suits’ are made by sticking a piece of red/pink sticker over a piece of clear plastic, which looks pretty bad. My MG Zaku II I painted the lens, and it looks slightly better. For this one though, as it’s an old kit and the quality isn’t up to par with the newer ones, I’ve decided to try something new, and that is to replace the eye with a USB powered LED bulb (Idea came from Gundamaniac’s tutorial, although I did made some changes, wiring the bulb was still thanks to him)

My friend took the pictures of my first trial with this stuff. I’m waiting for the pictures, they’ll go up later. But…lets just say that it didn’t go very well. I used 2V LEDs, and the USB provides 5V. The guy at the electronic surplus store told me to use 330 ohms resistors. That resulted in the bulb not lighting up. I tested the circuit and the bulb burnt out in less than a second. I then hooked up a much weaker resistor and the bulb burnt out as well. After going back to the store and having an hour long argument about this stuff, the guy told me they had 5v bulbs…<insert swear word here>

This is all I had to work with, I gave up working yesterday and had another go today. Since the bulbs are now 5v, they didn’t burn out when I connected it.

All this is all rushed. I will solder the wires together when I have time. Now that the light is connected, the head had to be modded so the light will fit.

Brain surgery can't be too hard...

Brain surgery can't be THAT hard...

The heads of the earlier Zeonic suits are much simpler compared to the 2.0 remakes. All that’s restricting the LED bulb is that area where the old eye was. So…

As you can see, I ended up cutting the peg supporting the eye to make way for the bulb. The wires can go through the gap at the poly cap where the head joins with the torso. I don’t really feel like modding the torso/backpack, so the wires will be sticking out of the pack of the Gouf’s neck.

Let there be Light!

Let there be Light!

Yay!

Yay!

Took me around 10 mins to write this >.> Gotta run. Hope you enjoyed it. Any grammer errors will be fixed when I have time.

Strike E + IWSP – Yet more progress

I’ve been eating out on my day-offs, so I’ve yet to complete my model. The good thing is that I’ve finally had it assembled and stuff.

Pictures:

The Problems? A few parts need to be stripped and repainted because the paint was dirtied when I painted. I also missed some sprues marks. On top of that, some of the metallic paint on the sword scraped off when I mounted them. After that is top coat and decals.

To be honest though, I’m a bit hesitant to finish this project, just because then I’d have nothing to do until my next kit arrives (which I haven’t placed my order yet).

Strike E + IWSP Progress

I finished the Strike E and most of the weapons last night. Here’s just a quick update and some pictures.

Currently building the IWSP, I should have it done by tomorrow.

Some parts may need to be repainted, because random things happen and they got dirty =_=
