When I first bought this model I’ve only seen 08th MS Team, so I thought I’d juse use this to practice painting skills when I first acquired it from Anime North 2008. Little did I know though, how I come to like this kit (and I’ve only seen 0080: War in the Pocket since then, need to get my hands on Zeta at least >.<)
For those who don’t know (and most probably don’t). I handpaint all of my gunpla kits (sad to say, only consists of 3 MGs and a HG, I’m not counting the four HG 1/144s). So the quality probably isn’t as great as some of the other modelers.
As far as Zakus go, this one really isn’t special. For a grunt all you really need is to kill something before they kill you, and after the 6th kill you get your own custom suit or something like that (which reminds me, did Patrick ever acquired 6 confirmed kills?)
Arsenals include Heat Hawk, 120mm drum fed machine gun, 280mm Zaku bazooka, and the 360mm giant bazooka.
Machine Gun and Heat Hawk:
Although two variants of the bazooka was provided, I almost always have my Zaku posed with the 360mm Giant Bazooka. But for the shoot I used both.
Now, the thing I really like about this kit is it’s beginner friendliness and its super posability. The 2.0 frame is made so that the armor parts simply fit on. I guess the idea is that it’s just like how they repair these machines. Anyway, during the process, one could simply build the frame first, spray it with Tamiya Gunship Gray, and paint the armor separately. Then just put them together. Although the pipes were a pain in the rear to deal with (I had less trouble with my Gouf Custom though, but it was still annoying).
As for super posability…See for yourself. I really shouldn’t abuse him this much though…

That looks great for something handpainted. I don’t see any brushstrokes ^^. I don’t think you abuse your models as much as I do in the joints department though
Is this the F or J type you’ve got? I’ve always found them not easy to distinguish. It’s interesting you’ve mentioned that one gets a customised unit after 6 confirmed kills; where did you read that from?
LOL!!!!
Nice job!!!!!
StilL WTF…Saber is getting humped by Zaku…OMG…what has the world come too…
@Z: Thanks for the comment. Handpainting is actually easier than it looks, key is to thin the paint to the right amount and work fast enough. I don’t know about the abuse bit, but the Zaku’s joints are quite strong.
@Q: I made the assumption that all aces get their own custom suit. I think in the Gundam universe is the same as the regular air force where six confirmed kills makes you an ace (k apparently it’s 5 kills, my bad). Oh, my Zaku is type F, I think the difference is the booster, type J also has rocket launchers on its leg.
@Rin: I didn’t even think about it THAT way…My poor Saber T.T
LOL looks like Zaku is getting frisky with Saber.
The J version doesnt have any booster on it’s leg, even under the foot. you can check on my blog or at dalong.net
Wow, it’s great!
I always want to take a break buying Gunpla, and buy Gruntpla instead. Did you handpainted it? How did you do it? It’s cool!
Oh yeah, added yours to my blogroll, please visit ^^
@eyeshield30: Will do. If you’re interested in handpainting drop off a comment somewhere and I’ll email you with how I handpaint my models.
Okay! Please do! ^_^
