New Mobile Report Gundam Wing

It’s been a while…A long while…But I just had to get my hands on it and rewatch it.

Gundam Wing is my first ever Gundam series, and the oldest Gundam series I’ve seen (since the 08th MS Team is released after Wing, even though it’s part of the UC time line). It was around 7 or 8 years ago, and…since it’s a series for teens, I didn’t really understand much of what was going on other than that Gundams were killing people left and right. To make things even more confusing, I did not speak English back then. So yea, SEED was my favourite Gundam series until I saw 00 and then 08th MS Team.

I really don’t know what to say from this point since I’m still on episode 14 (my schedule doesn’t allow me to watch too much anime these days). It would be one of those Colony vs Federation kind of wars until Treize Khushrenada took over. I think that’s when I was utterly lost since people started killing eachother at random. I can’t say right now that I understand quite clearly what’s happening, oh well.

I did not start watching subs until I was in grade 8, so the voices sound kind of foreign to me when I watched it. Apparently the meisters are around 15-16, and…well…They just sound so different from Soichiro Hoshi (Kira Yamato) and Miyano Mamoru (Setsuna F. Seiei). Well, then again, I never did record and listen to myself talk ^^;. But yea, the voices are all foreign to me exept for Zechs, who was voiced by the same guy that did Rau Le Cruset. Maybe because the series is so old, but Kikuko Inoue got a good part in 08th MS Team, why couldn’t they get her a role here?

Animation aside, the story itself is pretty good, especially since now I speak fluent English ^^;. The characters are different from the other series that I’ve watched in that they show relatively little emotion. My initial guess was that Heero at least was raised as a Super Soldier, but then that term never popped when I read articles about the show. My favourite character is Duo Maxwell, probably because Deathscythe is badass^^. Though after becoming an otaku I’m leaning towards Wing (not Heero though, do not like).

Mecha design reminds me of 00, where the Mobile Suits are more specialized, unlike in SEED where the standard armament was the Beam Rifle + Beam Saber + misc. Gundamnium alloy is overpowered, and since it’s still early, I can’t really say much about the pilots. From what I remember they were much better later on. I’m amused by the fact that every time they’ve got a mission they need to steal transports. Yet they can somehow always rearm their suits before the next battle starts. How does Deathscythe get his shield back every time the camera leaves him, I wonder.

Man, that sure brought back a ton of memories. unfortunately though, not a lot kits came out for Gundam Wing (damn Bandai still milking money off SEED). I’ll probably end up getting the MG Wing ver. Ka since it’s like the only MG kit for Wing (the other is the Endless Waltz version Wing Zero, which I dislike).
