Fate/Hollow Ataraxia

Before anyone gets excited, I’ll address this: No, the English translation patch did not coming out yet, and I don’t think Mirrormoon will be translating it. The Chinese patch is said to come out any moment and desperate fanboys like myself can do nothing but camp the SumiSora forums.

Now that I’ve crushed all hopes (sorry ^^;), here’s what the story is about (kind of). Some parts are spoilers to it’s pre-qual Fate/Stay Night, so read at your own discretion.

The plot of Fate/hollow ataraxia is based half a year after the events of Fate/stay night. Like its preceding counterpart, the story is set in Fuyuki City.

Bazett Fraga McRemitz (Guian), a member of the Mages’ Association and a master in the 5th Holy Grail War, wakes on the fourth day of the 5th Holy Grail war with a new servant, Avenger, and no memory of what happened to her beforehand. She and Avenger set off to fight and win the Holy Grail War.

Meanwhile, Shirō Emiya lives a peaceful life with all his friends from the 5th Holy Grail War. After one of her experiments alters the event-horizon changes time and space, Rin Tōsaka leaves for the Mages’ Association in England to fix things. The Servants sense a new danger while dark creatures appear soon afterward. Shirō, as a precaution, sets off to ensure nobody is in danger and instead finds himself frequently meeting a mysterious girl, Caren Ortensia.

Both Bazett and Shirō find themselves in time loop that lasts four days, beginning of the fourth day of the 5th Holy Grail War. Each time they die or survive four days, they always awake on the first day of the loop aware of what has happened to them since the first time loop began. Determined to end the loop, Bazett, Avenger, and Shirō fight to discover the truth behind what’s causing the endless four days.

The servants are back as well as all the masters (unfortunately that includes Shinji, but luckily not Kirei). Ataraxia has a much more laid back setting where the servants get along and we get to see them living as people (eg. Lancer likes to fish and Saber doesn’t get the concept of undergarments o.o). The servants and masters also get along with eachother (one such incident includes Saber, Rider and Caster running into eachother in the market).  I don’t read Japanese, but I do have a set of scenes translated in Chinese, maybe I’ll do a translation every week or something.

Characters:

Bazett Fraga McRemitz:

Bazett was born in Ireland as a descendant of an old family of mages that had detached itself from the Mages’ Association and lived in the shadows quietly. Her family belongs to a special category of sorcerers known as Traditional Carriers – God’s Holders, a specific breed of magicians that pass on their abilities through bloodline rather than teachings. Wishing to pursue a different path than that of her ancestors, she chose to join the Association. Despite Bazett’s rare lineage, her skills were not judged as being particularly useful and she was dismissed. Instead, she employed her abilities to become a hunter of those that had been Designated to be Sealed.

During her missions, Bazett met Kirei Kotomine, a member of the Church. As she told him her story, she quickly came to trust him and was very happy when he invited her to become a Master in the 5th Holy Grail War. However, after she summoned the Servant, Lancer and prepared to join the War, she was betrayed by Kotomine, who stole Lancer’s command spell and chopped off her left arm. Having only lived to fight for four days in the Grail War, Bazett was left to die.

For those who have watched Fate/Stay Night the anime or played through the first route, think back to the scene with the severed right arm in the basement of the church. That was poor Bazette.

Caren Ortensia

Caren is a member of the Church and works as a priestess. She is also a member of the Burial Agency like Ciel from Tsukihime. She is angelic and forgiving to the point that she believes her only purpose in life is to help others, even if she is hurt in the process. She never blames the person who has hurt her and blames the act on demons who caused the person to commit the sin. Whenever she is at fault, she apologizes to God rather than the person.

One of Caren’s most unexpected personality quirks is her love for teasing and exploiting others’ emotional vulnerability. Upon discovery of an individual’s weak spot, she enjoys bringing it out to light in front of all the other characters. While this antagonizes many characters and causes much outrage and humiliation, she remains calm: once, when Avenger retorted in response to her, she squeezed his face without a change in expression. Oddly enough, in spite of being a priestess, she has deliberately chosen to wear a revealing costume with no skirt to both increase her mobility and to seduce men.

Caren is the replacement of Kirei as the head of the fake church. The Chinese teaser patch only covered the prologue so I’ve yet to see how she acts.

Servant Avenger

The eighth servant class, whose true identity is initially believed to be Angra Mainyu, the spirit of pure evil that was accidentally summoned during the 3rd Holy Grail War and had been imprisoned within the tainted Grail ever since. He usually has a lazy and laid-back attitude, lacking any sense of justice.

As a combatant, he seems to be the weakest of all Servants in every parameter. His Sword Breaker is weak and unreliable, while his skill in manipulating his twin daggers Tawrich and Zarich as melee weapons is only average compared to other servants. Even his Noble Phantasm poses little threat and his master Bazett has proven herself to be physically stronger and a better fighter.

Seen only briefly and mentioned as the corrupting force residing within the Holy Grail in Fate/Stay Night, Avenger physically manifests into the world. He created the four day arc in an attempt to save Bazette.

Others:

As mentioned, all previous masters (with the exception of Kirei) and servants are back. Rider is now back with her proper master and Saber is still living with Shiro.

My Plan:

Since I don’t really have anything regular to blog about, and the game not being translated into English…I’m thinking of translating scenes and publishing them…say…once a week or so. I’d like some thoughts on that.

Unfortunately though, my laptop can’t run the game because Vista won’t allow me to change unicode (and I don’t really feel like messing around with AppLocale just yet). I have all the scenes translated in Chinese with a few CGs in each scene, and I’ll be just translating those. The posting sequence will be the sequence of appearance in the game. The files look something like so:

Romanizing kanji might be a bit trouble some for me (because some are pronounced differently from Chinese) but I’ll do my best. So yea…Look forward for it? (hopefully it won’t turn out to be a disaster…)

I’m doing this for the fans out there that want to see the contents of the game. Although this won’t deliver (I know it didn’t when I read them through), I hope it’ll ease your cravings a bit. If you happen to drop by because for this, please say something, I’ll mean a lot to me. Also, it might (it probably does) sound stupid, but please try to visit more frequently, mainly because my blog isn’t registering enough hits to appear in the first page of google for the other fans to find. Much abliged.

Also, I’ve changed my wallpaper for the occasion ^^

Texts were copied from wikipedia (I go over the stuff from time to time so it’s accurate) and my wallpaper was afrom konachan.

  1. MORE Typemoon stuff!!!!!!
Your sure are addicted to this!!!!!!
    I wouldn’t mind playing it though…

  2. @Rin: Yea, I’m a big fanboy…unfortunately I can’t really stomach their sad sad endings though…(I cried after I finished Fate/Stay Night the anime, the Fate route <-almost the same story as the anime, the ending of Tsukihime anime, and on the verge of tears for UBW), that and I can’t find the time to play the games for hours with no worries T.T Give it a try, most people don’t appreciate visual novels though…

  3. I was actually wondering how you would go about romanizing the kanji. My vocabulary is actually fairly good and I can understand most of the dialogue that aren’t litered with kanji. Is there a “kanji dictionary” that you can use or do you just have to memorize them all.

Q.Q thanks for your time and good luck with the translating!

    P.S. MOAR KAREN ZOMGS

  4. @Andrew: There’s no real easy way (I don’t speak Japanese), it involves a lot of googling and looking through pages and yes, it’s quite painful.

  5. @Andrew: If you can understand most of the dialogue, you should be helping. :’(

  6. I really would like to see Avenger and his story told, personally. If you can do it, then know I among other people would be grateful.

At the risk of sounding like a child, there’s no hentai in this one, is there? :V

  7. Although Mirrormoon ain’t translating it, there is a translating group working on the game.

  8. there a continue of fate/stay night in fate/hollow ataraxia?
    ( anime not game )
